Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park, located in northern Tanzania about two hours’ drive from Arusha, is famous for its large elephant herds, iconic baobab trees, and diverse wildlife that thrives along the Tarangire River. Covering approximately 2,850 square kilometers, the park features a mix of savannah plains, riverine forests, and swamps, creating an ideal habitat for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and a wide array of antelope species. Birdwatchers are also rewarded with over 550 species, including lilac-breasted rollers, pygmy falcons, and African fish eagles. The Tarangire River is the park’s lifeline, attracting animals year-round but especially during the dry season from June to October when wildlife congregates along its banks, making game viewing particularly rewarding. Visitors can enjoy guided game drives, walking safaris, and photography excursions, all set against the backdrop of towering baobabs and acacia-dotted plains. Less crowded than Serengeti or Ngorongoro, Tarangire offers a more tranquil and intimate safari experience, combining abundant wildlife, striking landscapes, and easy accessibility, making it a must-visit destination for travelers exploring northern Tanzania.
